Growing up in Texas, the sight of longhorns grazing under the wide-open skies, framed by oak trees and fields of bluebonnets, was the backdrop of my childhood.
I always knew I’d be making a painting of them someday.
While living in Cedar Creek, Texas, near the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort, I was lucky enough to live just blocks away from where the resort’s longhorns roamed. They grazed peacefully, entertaining guests and posing for photographs—a true Texas spectacle.
One early morning, to my surprise, the longhorns had migrated to the ranch land directly behind my property. I was able to get wonderful images of the them and reveled in their beauty and presence. When the world paused during the pandemic, I poured my heart and soul into creating The Longhorn.
It took a very large format to give the longhorn justice so this lovely original in oil is 7 feet by 4 feet. The size is intentional; I wanted the viewer to feel their presence, to be enveloped by their spirit.
